Don’t Ask, Just Sing of the Day: Marines serving in Afghanistan perform a shockingly competent lip dub of Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me,” which has been stamped with the approval of BritBrit herself.

[thanks karl!]

Um YES.

Father-Son Bonding of the Day: Meanwhile, in wherever the hell it’s considered appropriate for a father and his little boy to engage each other in a friendly slap-fight for control of the television, this is taking place.

‘Zerts’ are what I call desserts. ‘Trée-trées’ are entrées. I call sandwiches ‘sammies’, ‘sandoozles’ or ‘Adam Sandlers’. Air conditioners are ‘cool blasterz’ with a ‘z’ - I don’t know where that came from. I call cakes ‘big ole cookies’. I call noodles ‘long-ass rice’. Fried chicken is ‘fry-fry chicky-chick’. Chicken parm is ‘chicky-chicky-parm-parm’. Chicken cacciatore? ‘Chicky-cacc’. I call eggs ‘pre-birds’, or ‘future birds’. Root beer is ‘super water’. Tortillas are ‘bean blankets’. And I call forks ‘food rakes’.

Feel-Good Story of the (Fri)Day: Last week, fans at a Superliga semifinal match between rival Brazilian volleyball clubs Sada Cruzeiro and Vôlei Futuro erupted in chants of “bicha” (the Portuguese equivalent of “f****t”) aimed at Vôlei Futuro’s middle blocker Michael (see video below).

The incident forced Michael to come out to the media, telling reporters “I’m gay. Everyone knows who I am. My team fully respects my sexuality.” In fact, Michael said that, following the match, “his teammates came up to him to make sure he was okay.”
But the show of support for Michael was just beginning: During a second semi-final match last Saturday, Vôlei Futuro wore pink warmup shirts as a sign of solidarity, while the team’s libero donned a rainbow-flagged tee during the game. Meanwhile, the crowd displayed a giant banner that read “Vôlei Futuro Against Prejudice,” and thundersticks imprinted with the word “Michael” made sure to drown out any shred of homophobia that may have lingered in the stadium.
And in case you were wondering, Vôlei Futuro won. But they would have been winners either way.

I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And what do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in life. And I am horribly limited.
